Kanye West took to Twitter to joke around with Britney Spears after her single hit No. 1 on iTunes.
Kanye West, whose new collaboration with Jay-Z “H.A.M.”, hit No. 2 on iTunes, repeated the same line that made millions watching the VMAs cringe more than a year ago.
“Yo Britney. I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time,” the New York Daily News quoted him as tweeting on Friday.
While the tweet to Spears was caught in a screengrab by popeater.com, West apparently received enough backlash from the apparently not-funny yet joke that he took it down on Friday.
“On a serious note, I’m truly happy for @AvrilLavigne and @BritneySpears … No hate in 2011!” he wrote.
“I thought LOL signified a joke … I didn’t get the 2011 LOL doesn’t signify a joke anymore memo … LOL or something else I guess,” he added.
On Spears’ Twitter account, her manager Adam Leber, tweeted back at West, “Thanks for “letting” us be #1. Much appreciated …”
