Akshay Kumar to promote IIFA in Canada

Akshay "Khiladi" Kumar, the Tourism Ambassador of Canada, will promote the event, touted as the "Oscars of Bollywood", which will be held in Toronto this year.

After reported rifts with Amitabh Bachchan, who has been the face of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) for 11 long years, the organisers are searching for a new face and it seems that Kumar is set to carry forward the baton.

"Akshay will promote IIFA this year in Toronto as he has a huge fan following there. As far as being the IIFA brand ambassador is concerned, nothing has been finalised yet," said a source close to the actor. Bachchan and IIFA had a fall-out when the 68-year-old actor failed to participate in the IIFA Weekend in Sri Lanka last year.

Akshay Kumar, 43, who was in the capital to promote Canada Tourism said that he was delighted to be the face of the North American country in India. "Canada is a beautiful country and I often recommend it as a shooting destination to directors. Bollywood has a huge fan following there and it is a charming place," said Akshay.

Enquired about the role of Canada in the award ceremony, Derek Galcin, Managing Director, Canada Tourism said, "We are working very closely with IIFA to make it a success and we also have Akshay who is a huge star in both countries helping us promote the event."

IIFA organizers are also reportedly in talks with ''Dabbang'' star Salman Khan to become the event''s new ambassador.
