Ashley Judd reveals childhood sexual abuse

Ashley Judd the star for “Where the Heart Is” bared her childhood in her memoir titled, “All That Is Bitter and Sweet”. She opened up about her childhood, saying, “My childhood was erratic, chaotic, unstable. I was so the lost child, who just goes away and can be invisible while sitting in the middle of the room."

"I know that my mom did the best she could as did my dad," the actress continued to say, "but for a variety of reasons, it was just hurtful."

From the age of 5, Judd attended 13 different schools until she was 18. Her sister, Wynonna, went on to be a country singer and built a musical empire with their mother, Naomi. As a result, Judd became depressed and even experienced suicidal thoughts. She also was a victim of sexual assault from an anonymous family member during her childhood.

"That is what sexual predators do. They groom their victims and psychologically manipulate," the actress told NBC’s Today show, reports M&C.

Fortunately, Judd has been able to find happiness in her life despite her troubled childhood. “You know, it's too late to go back and have a happy childhood,” she says, “but by the grace of God and you know, a pretty simple program of recovery and fellowship, life is good today,” she said.
