Baby boy for Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao

While one Bollywood star baby born to the Bachchans was making headlines all over, another one quietly made his way into the world.

Without any hype surrounding the arrival, actor Aamir Khan revealed on Monday morning that he and wife Kiran Rao have become parents to a baby boy.

In a personalised letter addressed to the editors of leading entertainment newspapers, and hand delivered to their offices along with a box of chocolates, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao said, “It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty. Due to medical complications, we were advised to have a baby through IVF-Surrogacy, and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that all has gone well.”

They added, “We are humbled by the greatness of God, the miracles of science and the kindness and love of our families and friends in being there for us while respecting our privacy. We seek your good wishes and blessings for our child.”

The baby boy was born on December 1 to a surrogate mother at a private clinic in Bandra, Mumbai. For reasons of privacy, the identity of the woman is being kept under wraps. “We are so happy,” responded Aamir to a congratulatory message.

The couple, who got married in December 2005, had been trying for a baby for a while. In August 2009, Kiran, 36-year-old at that time, suffered a miscarriage, following which the couple reportedly sought medical intervention for assisted reproduction. Aamir, 46, already has two children — Junaid, 19 and Ira 14— with his first wife, Reena, who he divorced in 2002.
